Informing the Credit Report Mistakes

If you think that information in your credit report is not accurate, tell the company specifying the exact part of information that you feel is not proper. In order to prove your statement does include copies of document as a proof.

A letter submitted to company must explain each and every point you think in your report is inaccurate along with the name and full residential address of yours. Letter must ask company to remove incorrect information in the report on the basis of proofs and documents you have attached with the letter.

It is suggested to enclose copy of report to mark items in letter. Make sure that you are sending it through mail with request of receipt of reception. It will help you to know that consumer reporting company have accepted your report and you can even keep it as record of communication. Here is sample letter

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am writing this letter to point out inaccuracy in my report. I have marked items in the copy of report attached along with the letter that represent items over which I have claimed an argument.
Item name (including details like name of source and type of item like credit account or anything else)  is not proper because (state reasons indicating why and what you feel improper). Thus I request you to delete item or change (Mention change you are expecting) item information.
I have enclosed copy of (specify name) documents for your reference. (Use this sentence only if you have attached any copy of document with letter.) I request you to investigate for this information and make the necessary changes as soon as possible.

It is responsibility of company to start investigation of the dispute you have mentioned within 30 days of application unless they find your application improper. It is must for companies to forward all required data to the related organizations who have provided information content in report.

It is duty of those respective organizations to investigate and, if found, report inaccuracy of report to the consumer reporting companies. These changes are in turn reported to the information provider, who must inform it to nationwide consumer reporting company so that respective changes must be made.

After the investigation, it is responsibility of consumer reporting companies to inform changes to the consumer in written form. You will be provided with the free copy of report by organization. Any organization has no right to add back information to your report that is once proved as inaccurate unless company investigation proves it to be proper.

You are provided with a letter having detailed information about instruction provider. Consumer reporting company should send the corrected copy of reports to those organizations which have received previous copy of report. You can also ask company to send corrected report to the organizations who have received your previous report in last two years for employment purpose.

If investigation does not lead to any conclusion, you can ask for investigation report to be included in your applications that you are expected to send in future. You can also make provision that     this report is sent to companies where you have applied before as employee. The information provider is not expected to repeat same item in your report again once it is proved to be inaccurate.
